Responding to an old dormant post?

When you have a question related to a post from several months back, you might consider sending a courtesy e-mail to the poster (if an e-mail address is available) with a thread URL. This courtesy not only keeps the original poster current on the topic, but helps you get a faster response.

It is encouraged that you post the question in the thread and ask the original poster to come visit the thread, rather than addressing the question through e-mail. Addressing the question in the thread allows other parties to participate. It spawns additional solutions and innovations that the original poster and you may not have thought about.
