PingSubNet.sh (GPL)PingSubNet.sh is a Bourne shell script that can help you locate the IP address of a device on you subnet. You can also use it to figure out which computer is on or off. Just provide the subnet IP to PingSubNet.sh and it will do the work for you. It takes up to a second to ping a dead IP, so the worst case scenario is that PingSubNet.sh will take 256 seconds to ping an entire subnet. On the other hand, it returns quickly if an IP is alive. Therefore, on a network with large number of live hosts, it will complete it's task rather quickly. PingSubNet.sh is distributed as executable source code under the GNU General Public License. Please see the license agreement elsewhere on this site. Chieh Cheng PingSubNet.sh was originally written on Apple Mac OS X Darwin. It didn't work on SUSE Linux 9. I modified it so that it would work on most UNIX-based systems. The new version is attached below. Chieh Cheng In the process of making PingSubNet.sh more universal, I've introduced a bug where it thinks that dead IP addresses are alive. I fixed it in the version attached below. Chieh Cheng
