FriendlyFileSize.sh (GPL)FriendlyFileSize.sh is a Bourne shell script that takes in the number of bytes as input and output the bytes in a friendly unit format: gigabytes (GB), megabytes (MB), kilobytes (KB), and bytes (B). You can use FriendlyFileSize.sh along with the FileSize.ksh script to obtain the friendly file size for any given file. FriendlyFileSize.sh is distributed as executable source code under the GNU General Public License. Please see the license agreement elsewhere on this site. UsageFriendlyFileSize.sh bytes If no arguments are specified on the command-line, then FriendlyFileSize.sh reads from standard input (stdin). Examples> FriendlyFileSize.sh 1468164 > FileSize.ksh xv | FriendlyFileSize.sh Attached File: FriendlyFileSize.sh Chieh Cheng I have made quite a few changes in this iteration. FriendlyFileSize.sh now has better error handling mechanism, has more modular code, has support for larger file sizes, has support for the new IEC prefixes. In this iteration, FriendlyFileSize.sh supports kibibyte (KiB), mebibyte (MiB), gibibyte (GiB), tebibyte (TiB), pebibyte (PiB), and exbibyte (EiB). The algorithm will support zebibyte (ZiB) and yobibyte (YiB) when computers can handle those numbers in the future. This version of FriendlyFileSize.sh takes advantage of the CalcExp.sh (GPL) Bourne shell script, which is also available on this site. So to use this script, you will need to download the CalcExp.sh script if you don't already have it. Chieh Cheng
