DarwinComputerName.sh (GPL)

You can specify a computer name for your Mac OS X computer in "Apple Menu" -> "System Preferences..." -> "Sharing". However, Darwin continues to change this name by appending a ".local" extension, or changes it entirely with every new network connection. It's not reliable to call 'hostname' or 'uname -n" to acquire this name. Therefore, I've created this command-line Bourne shell script, with the help of a good friend, which retrieve the name directly from Mac OS X's system profiler.

I've made a slight modification to this script so that it is easier to use in cron jobs. I simply added the full path to the system_profiler call.
