DarwinComputerName.sh (GPL)You can specify a computer name for your Mac OS X computer in "Apple Menu" -> "System Preferences..." -> "Sharing". However, Darwin continues to change this name by appending a ".local" extension, or changes it entirely with every new network connection. It's not reliable to call 'hostname' or 'uname -n" to acquire this name. Therefore, I've created this command-line Bourne shell script, with the help of a good friend, which retrieve the name directly from Mac OS X's system profiler. DarwinComputerName.sh is distributed as executable source code under the GNU General Public License. Please see the license agreement elsewhere on this site. Chieh Cheng I've made a slight modification to this script so that it is easier to use in cron jobs. I simply added the full path to the system_profiler call. Chieh Cheng
