Lowercase.bash (GPL)

Lowercase.bash is a Bash shell script that converts any string to lowercase. You can either pass in the string via command-line parameter or pass in a list of them through standard input (stdio).

Lowercase.bash is distributed as executable source code under the GNU General Public License. Please see the license agreement elsewhere on this site.

Usage

Usage: "Lowercase.bash" "string"

Use a '-' in place of the string to read
from standard input (pipe).

Examples

  $ Lowercase.bash "Hello World"
  hello world

  $ Lowercase.bash "HELLO WORLD"
  hello world

  $ echo "hellO worlD" | Lowercase.bash -
  hello world

  $ echo "hello world" | Lowercase.bash -
  hello world

Bash on Mac OS X acts different with string substitution, causing this script to break. I have updated the script to use "tr" instead. Download the new version below, which works on both Linux and Mac OS X.
