Uninstalling AutoPackage

Today, I wanted to try installing Inkscape using the AutoPackage feature. The AutoPackage allowed you to install Linux software on virtually any distribution without using proprietary package installer for that distribution. It sounded like a neat feature. So I downloaded the Inkscape AutoPackage and attempted to install it.

Eventually the installation failed because I did not set-up the Internet proxy correctly. And I wanted to try again after fixing the problem. But when I ran the Inkscape AutoPackage again, I got the following error:

"FAIL:Install the package with the command 'package install' instead."

That's interesting, because "package" is no where to be found. The only thing left to do is to try and uninstall AutoPackage. But it doesn't have an uninstall option.

Finally, I used my "where.sh" utility to find anything that starts with "autopackage" under my home directory. Then I used my brand new "Eliminate.sh" script to eliminate all files and directories that begins with "autopackage". After I eliminated them, I was able to go through the installation process again.

You can download "where.sh" and "Eliminate.sh" elsewhere on this web site. The command to delete all "autopackage" files and directory is as follows:

where.sh "autopackage*" | Eliminate.sh
