Spotlight Manager 1.0

Hello. First, I'm loving MagicMenu, so thank you very much for releasing it. I'm running 10.6.2 and when I tried to run Spotlight Manager I got the following error message:

launchctl: Couldn't stat("/system/Library/
LaunchAgents/com.apple.Spotlight.plist"): No such
file or directory
nothing found to unload

Since you can't use spotlight with MagicMenu, I'm hoping whatever bug is causing this in 10.6 can be fixed for Spotlight Manager. Checked my system library launch agents folder and indeed, no such plist exists.

Let me take a look at this issue and then get back to you. I may need your help to troubleshoot this problem. Is 10.6 Snow Leopard? I'm still on 10.5.8. So MagicMenu works with Snow Leopard?

Yes, 10.6 is Snow Leopard and MagicMenu works beautifully on it. Regarding Spotlight Manager, it could just be an issue of the spotlight plist being in a different folder though I couldn't find it. I've tried to search several folders, in fact, and I can't locate it. Happy to help as much as I am able.

I did a bit of research. Looks like it takes a different method to disable Spotlight on Snow Leopard. But I think it's workable. I'll post it here when I have something ready for you to try.

Hi Evan,

I need your help. Would you paste the following line into Terminal and post the response here?

  ls -alF /System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Search

I need to determine the original condition of that file/directory in order to write a script to turn Spotlight back on in Snow Leopard. Thanks.

Ok, this what terminal gave in response:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 855280 Oct 16 08:29 /System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Search*

Thanks for your help. Based on the info you provided, I was able to come up with two programs to enable and disable Spotlight for Snow Leopard last night. I will test it in my "simulated" environment and package it up by this weekend, so that you can give it a try.

Ok. Attached below is the beta version of the Spotlight Manager for Snow Leopard. Please give it a try and let me know if it works. Once you give me the thumb up or thumb down, then we'll get it polished up for release. Thanks.

Ok, downloaded and tried it out. Ran the disable app and it removed the spotlight icon from the menubar. Than I ran the enable app and spotlight both reappeared in my menu bar and it began to index my system, which, I assume, means that the disable app really does successfully disable spotlight. Since spotlight begins to reindex the system after being turned back pon through the enable app I can only conclude one thing: SUCCESS! Thanks so much for taking the time to polish this up for Snow Leopard users, it's greatly appreciated.
