MagicMenu: Cannot Use SpotlightI just wanted to report a bug in 3.0, when using Magic Menu on 10.5.8 I cannot use Spotlight from the Menu Bar. Since I'm not using Magic Menu on Finder itself its not an issue, but I wanted to report the bug novocain I have verified that this problem on Mac OS X 10.5.7 as well. I used MagicMenu Off on the "Chess" program. I was able to use Spotlight. Once MagicMenu is turned on for "Chess" I can no longer use Spotlight. I can't activate Spotlight with the mouse click on the menu bar icon nor with "Command + Space Bar" key strokes. There is currently no solution for this problem, because auto-hide is a hidden Mac OS X feature. And spotlight is a Mac OS X feature. MagicMenu only enables the hidden Mac OS X feature. Perhaps, Apple didn't provide auto-hide feature as part of their Mac OS X operating system because its developers couldn't fix the Spotlight being disabled bug. Or perhaps, Apple never intended to deliver auto-hide, therefore, never tested it with Spotlight. Chieh Cheng I have just produced a software that will let you turn Spotlight off. It is called "Spotlight Manager". So if you rather use MagicMenu and don't need Spotlight, you can get rid of it from your top menu bar altogether. Chieh Cheng It would be great if you could restore spotlight functionality to the (finder) menu bar, when you scroll up to unhide it. I use that spotlight a lot. smoky i'll still like to see if spotlight works with magic finder menu. i do every thing with spotlight can't think my mac without it. i'll be happy to see any update if it works coz i like magic menu as well. all the best. Arvind Pandeya Hey just saw one thing..... spotlight does not work if current application is finder... else any other app it works that's nice i like it. i m going to use Finder MagicMenu Off.. thats amazing. thanks man Arvind Pandeya Thanks for the tip, Arvind. That's very helpful. Chieh Cheng i am using magic menu now and spotlight does not work no matter what app i am in or if im just in finder or just on the desktop, nothin. command spacebar dont work either. would be nice if i could use it. 10.6.6 mb pro. Ibuprofen Everything works awesome except now the spotlight search is disabled from the menu bar. Why is that? Im running snow leopard Joe That's a question for Apple. MagicMenu enables the auto-hide feature, which is implemented in Mac OS X. However, why is it when this auto-hide feature is enabled, SpotLight doesn't work? My suspicion is that when Apple implemented the auto-hide feature, they found that it interfered with SpotLight, therefore, didn't provide the end-user the ability to turn on auto-hide. All MagicMenu does is it provided this switch that Apple didn't provide, but it doesn't fix the bug where auto-hide interfered with SpotLight. I suspect if Apple ever do fix this bug, Mac OS X will provide the menu auto-hide switch. At that time, there may not be a need for MagicMenu. For now, there are some things you can do: 1. Complain to Apple to provide the menu auto-hide feature. 2. Complain to Apple to fix the bug that prevent the existing auto-hide feature from interfering with SpotLight. 3. Use MagicMenu, but sacrifice the ability to use SpotLight. 4. Use SpotLight, but live with the menu being always visible. Chieh Cheng I just discovered the spotlight but. Damn!! I love how magicmenu works, I have been looking for this feature for YEARS. But I absolutely need spotlight, I use it many times every day. DAMN! Hiding the menu is such a simple, useful feature. I truly don't understand why Apple does not allow it. It's the little things... Oh, well. As much as I hate to say this; goodbye magicmenu, at least for now.. Chris Auto-hide toggle menu bar + quicksilver. worked for me. sergi
