ControlCenter AliasBrother MFC-7820N is a really nifty multi-function copier, FAX, printer, and scanner. Recently, I've been using it a lot to scan old documents into PDF; I'm finally going paperless. The ControlCenter software that comes bundled with the multi-function copier is really pretty good as well, at least on Windows side. This week, I finally installed the ControlCenter on my Mac OS X notebook. Right off the bat, I noticed several bugs. One, if you don't start the ControlCenter on boot, there is no application alias for you to start manually. After learning that ControlCenter is actually installed in "/Library/Printers/Brother/Utilities/ControlCenter", I decided to make an alias from it. And it's really not to convenient to travse five folders to get there. So for your convenience, I've attached the alias below. The second bug is that when you start ControlCenter manually, you can't open the control pane, making manual start up useless. You can work around that by changing the preference to open the control pane on start. The third bug is that once you closed the control pane, you can't bring it back up. Because it's already running as an icon, which isn't responding to your clicks, you can't get to the pane any more. The trick is the "ControlCenter Quit" application I wrote. I will post this utility in the TrackBack for you to download. Chieh Cheng
