RaWireless Automator (GPL)This RaWireless Automator is an AppleScript that helps you re-establish wireless connection after turning on or waking up your Macintosh. With this script, you won't have to click on the "Advanced" tab, click the "Radio Off" button, click the "Radio On" button, and then quit the "WirelessUtilityCardbusPCI" application. This AppleScript does all that for you. Although you can launch this AppleScript manually every time (it sure is easier than the process mentioned earlier), you can automate it even further with SleepWatcher. See the "Automate the Ralink Wireless Connection on Mac OS X" article for more details. When your computer first starts up, WirelessUtilityCardbusPCI is launched automatically. RaWireless Automator cannot work with it, because it is running as the "root" user. Therefore, RaWireless Automator will ask you for your administrator password, which will be used to close the WirelessUtilityCardbusPCI application. Then it will launch it again to perform the wireless network connection. This will not occur when you put the computer to sleep and wake it up. In order to use RaWireless Automator, access for assistive devices must be enabled. You can enable it by going to "System Preferences..." -> "Universal Access" -> "Enable access for assistive devices". If you try to run RaWireless Automator without enable that feature, it will open the Universal Access panel and remind you that feature must be enabled. RaWireless Automator is distributed as executable source code under the GNU General Public License. Please see the license agreement elsewhere on this site. Chieh Cheng I've found that the original version of RaWireless Automator works great with SleepWatcher, but it doesn't work if you place it in "Login Items". (You can get there via "Sytem Preferences..." -> "Accounts" -> "Login Items".) So, I have made some changes to the new version that is attached below. The new version works well with SleepWatcher and "Login Items". Chieh Cheng Hi, I'm trying to get your script to work, but the encoding on the file is not being recognized correctly in Safari, and it's quite a mess when I download it. OS X recognizes it as a classic application and refuses to run it. Do you have any suggestions for downloading the file so that the encoding is recognized properly? Many thanks. Patrick Kenny It looks like Mac OS X operates a bit differently than other operating systems. Looks like the resource file associated to each file is necessary for the file to work correctly. I guess the best way to transfer it over the Internet is to zip it up. I've attached the zipped file below. Give it a try and let me know if it works. Chieh Cheng by the way, i found a "mistake" in your script. there is a spelling error, in "automater" when you ask the user to turn on assist devices. please look into it if you are interested. CB Thanks. I will fix it in the next release. Chieh Cheng
