RenameFile (Freeware)

To show you that I am good on the promise I've made in the "Cynosure.X International Reloading!" entry, I am distributing this file renaming command-line utility using the new technology.

RenameFile is a command-line utility that will rename arbitrary number of files to upper or lowercase, your choice. It is written and compiled in Java so that it will run on any operating system that you throw at it. On many operating systems today, Java is already installed. If not, you can easily download a Java run-time environment and install it. RenameFile is distributed as Freeware. Please see the "Freeware License Agreement" elsewhere on this site.

Usage

java RenameFile -option file_1 [ . . . file_N ]

Options:
-uppercase Change file name to full uppercase
-lowercase Change file name to full lowercase

Today, I needed to prefix a list of files with a certain string. So, I updated this RenameFile command-line utility to do so.

The new version is attached below. In addition to the usage syntax above, the new version also supports the new usage syntax below.

Usage

  java RenameFile -option "string" "file_1" [ . . . "file_N" ]

Options:
-prefix Add a string to beginning of file name
