SDK Manager: failed to installAndroid SDK API level 19 for Android 4.4 (KitKat) has been released recently. So it's time for me to load up the SDK Manager and update all the Android tools on my Windows 8 development laptop. But soon after installation, I got the following error message: SDK Manager: failed to install That's an interesting message. Windows 8's security and protection has created many roadblocks in the past. And it's happening again. Mel The solution to this problem is to change the permission for the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk" directory and all of its sub-directories. You'll, of course, need administrator level access. You can do that by right-clicking on the directory and select "Properties". If "Read-only" is selected, then uncheck it and click the "Apply" button. Make sure it applies to "this folder, subfolders and files". Next, click on the "Security" tab. Click the "Edit..." button to change permissions. Make sure everyone in the list has "Full control" access (see screen shot below). Click the "Apply" button to change the permissions. Click the "OK" button(s) to finish. Now, you should be able to install the new Android SDK and its tools. Mel
