It was a good Tetris Game. Only thing I did not like was not being able to use the up key to rotate the block as well as the colors hurt the eyes after a while. Otherwise entertaining game.

Enjoyed the Tetris Game.

The frustrating thing was not being able to rotate a block with the up arrow. Its finger fumbling to have to use more than the arrows. Consider changing that.

The colors were good but after a while it tends to hurt my vision, consider in altering the colors or adding a texture.

Enjoyed the speed, and enjoyed the size of the game.

Suggestion:

Give options to not view the next block.
Easier Pause Button.
Adding your own skins.

This will catch me more if I could use the skin I choose. Makes it personal and captivating.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Tetris is a fun game to play. You are given the type of block piece that is going to fall to the bottom of the board. The idea is to try to make each block piece interlock with each other so that the blocks in the pieces form a color line across the board that is then removed from the board while more pieces keep falling down. You want to clear the complete color lines off the board and not let the pieces fall and pile up to the top of the board bring the game to an end.

It was a good basic Tetris game. I would have liked a key that would automatically drop the piece to the bottom, but the down button did speed it up. It worked how a Tetris game should.

To be honest, I didn't like it as much.. I think the screen was too small and it was a bit hard see. It would be better if user can choose the size of the game window. It also should have an instruction of which key does what... It took me a while to figure out that the shift key is the turning shift, by that time I figured it out, some game pieces were already put down and ruin my game.. Otherwise nice programming job! =)

This game is not fast paced at all. I really had a hard time with the high score box when it popped up it came up as a black box. I couldn't type anything in it. The game was okay, not one of the worst and not one of the best I have played. Not enough challenge, I mean I am used to just having to hold the arrow key down and the pieces usually drop quickly, with this one I had to repeatedly hit the down arrows. It has a good concept but needs more action and more attention grabbing sounds and graphics to keep this gaming enthusiast to want to play for hours on end.

that game could use some music but it works. it goes kinda fast and the computer wigged out cause I hit ctrl and shift too many times. would be better if you didn't have to download it.

I was not able to successfully access the game for play. The instructions were not clear and the example window did not display on my system. That may ot have been the fault of the game however, but the VISTA OS.

Sorry, looked like a fun little game.

Game was ok - a little difficult to figure out how to play without the key maps - which keys turn and move, etc. The sound does not seem to work for me either.

Good effort tho.

The game plays great. Is there any way you might make this possible to play in your browser direct without having to download, though? I don't just assign all files to work the way described on the page for security reasons.

Occasionally while playing my computer asked me to assign Sticky Keys. I'm not sure if that's because of the way the game is designed or because of the settings on my computer (I'm running Vista) but the window popped up right over my game and it didn't pause. Eventually it caused me to make a mistake that lead to me getting a Game Over.

When I did lose the game a window popped up that never finished loading. I tried three times and I could never get it to load no matter how long I waited. The rest of the game didn't freeze, though. I assume it was the name entry screen since my name was entered as " anon " on the highscore table.

A little critique for your game. I think there should be some kind of special effect when you clear the line. In the least a bit of a pause before the next block comes down.

I enjoyed the overall concept of the game. The arrow functions to move the pieces are not very responsive when the arrow key is held down, but other than that, the game works very well. Nice job!

I have played this game. It has been very sluggish at times, but for the most part its very unique. Also would be alot better if you had better graphics. Add some pictures to the blocks. Add a picture for the background. Otherwise I did find it very very compelling.

Tetris is always a welcome classic. But here's a few suggestions for improvement. First, using Shift to turn pieces is a bit of a problem - not what I would expect (usually it's just the up arrow) and more importantly, causes problems in Windows because repeated pressing of Shift triggers the annoying Sticky Keys function. Also, it didn't always register right away, so pieces wouldn't turn properly. The down-arrow drop was a bit slow, didn't always know it was working. It's rather confusing to have a new piece begin to fall before completed lines clear out below. When my high score box popped up, it was empty so I couldn't type anything in; score just recorded "anon". There could also be more indication of a change in level, though certainly not necessary.

Tue, 13 Apr 2010 02:02:37 +0000

The lack of directions makes the game difficult to begin. The player will stumble around on his first game to find the controls, which I thought were odd. The shift key turning the shape was strange, in most other Tetris games I played the up key turned the blocks. A grid would also be very nice, half the time I dropped the shape with space and it fell next to where I wanted it to be. Altogether the game was drab and unexciting. The lack of any noticeable levels of speeding up of the blocks made the game seem like a hopeless fight to keep the blocks from building up. Also, the sound that happens when I destroy two rows is loud and made me drop a piece on accident.

I like the fact that it opens a new screen to play the game. I didn't like the fact that it didn't use the customary Tetris keystrokes. Left and Right Arrow respectively, Up Arrow rotates, Down Arrow descends rapidly and Space sends them immediately down. Tetris spins are also not available in this program; the ability to get the piece close to where you want it, then manipulate it by flipping or sliding it to get it to the desired location.

The controls took me a while to get used to. Once I was, the only problem I could find was the Windows StickyKeys that pops up anytime Shift is hit 5 times in a row. During the game the dialog popped up with the option of turning StickyKeys on, thus making me lose focus on the game to deal with it. Frustrating.

All this being said, great game, just took time getting used to and maybe could've used some more user-friendliness in moving pieces and controls.

Page took a long time to load, perhaps make game load after page has loaded.

.jar created a few issues for me but I got around it.

Overall just a decent tetris game, I didn't notice anything too unusual or catchy about it. An ok alternative to a fun game, but it would be easier if the game was jsut streamed/didn't have to be downloaded.

Mon, 19 Apr 2010 01:59:42 +0000

The up arrow key should rotate blocks as well, using the shift key is an okay idea, but it can accidently cause "sticky keys" on windows to activate if pressed 5 times in a row for any reason. A background image might be nice. But okay for a less than 100KB implementation.

Tue, 20 Apr 2010 01:57:37 +0000

It's a fun and simple recreation of Tetris. It's pretty solid, and plays fine, and retains challenge pretty well. I didn't notice any particular errors running it from my Linux box. The only bothersome thing about the game is the lack of custom controls (If there is a way to configure the controls, I couldn't find it.) as hitting ctrl twice caused my Google Desktop Search bar to pop up and off over and over again until I realized shift worked as well.

Sorry but this is not "made for the web." nor can you play "any computer from anywhere in the world." because you made it non-web based. Users have to download the game. Most corporate computer systems, and public systems do not allow downloads whatsoever due to threats of viruses. A true web-based java scripting is like the chess game you coded.

Vince
Mon, 26 Apr 2010 02:02:42 +0000

Tue, 27 Apr 2010 02:04:37 +0000

The game loaded really fast even on my slow computer, which was wonderful, but I could not figure out how to change the position of the individual piece. Usually with tetris it's either the space bar or the 'up' arrow key. Otherwise a great game.

Wed, 28 Apr 2010 02:04:33 +0000

Game is good. its nice to see this game over web. Controls are OK. But it should be the UP or Down arrows(Keys) which change object's shape as compare to Ctrl Key. The play area is a also bit small. Sound is nice one.

so the screen or play area should be big. Arrow Keys should be incorporated to control game play.

Mon, 03 May 2010 01:56:44 +0000

The game is decent. The graphics are good, but it is too easy to accidentally press the wrong button and drop the piece too fast. I also noticed that while in the original game, you could still move the piece for a few seconds after it connects to something. However, in this game, once it connects to anything, you're stuck.

Michelle
Tue, 04 May 2010 02:04:40 +0000

Using the shift or control key to rotate the blocks felt counter-intuitive. I kept wanting to use the space bar to rotate the blocks. That causes some messy games real quick.

Wed, 05 May 2010 02:02:35 +0000

Up button should rotate piece. Down button should imediotly drop piece fast down until released. Other then that, it's pretty good.

Keith
Thu, 06 May 2010 02:01:08 +0000

I like the Tetris game, but I think the screen is too small. You should give user the option to expand the screen. It also took me some time to figure out which key does what. You should provide a help section in the game. By the time I figured out that the shift key actually shifts the tetris block around, there were already some unwanted pieces landed. So it would be helpful if a box pop ups with the keys instruction at the very beginning of the game. Great job though!

Thu, 13 May 2010 01:56:01 +0000

The use of CTRL and SHIFT to rotate pieces was unfortunate. CTRL kept loading some kind of Google Desktop application if I hit it twice in a row. Google Desktop took over the active window, so it made the Tetris application frustrating. (It's not fun to hit CTRL, CTRL, ESC, CTRL, CTRL, ESC, &c.) The SHIFT key would trigger "sticky keys" from Windows if I hit it too many times in a row. This also took over the active window. You might want to use some less functional keys for rotation of pieces.

Kris Belli
Fri, 14 May 2010 02:00:55 +0000

I've always loved Tetris and it's still just as frustrating as it ever was. I like it better on a full screen. Also, I don't like the need for using the control or shift keys to change the position of the blocks. It's harder when you have to use both hands. I don't remember what the older version did to change positions but it felt awkward especially to use the shift key.

Linda
Sat, 15 May 2010 02:03:51 +0000

I like the game, but I think that the directions for how to play should be in the applet menu because they would be more accessible while you were playing the game, and they were a bit difficult to find on the original screen. Otherwise, nice work!

Fri, 21 May 2010 02:01:56 +0000

Tetris is my favorite game. I enjoyed playing this game very much. There were just a couple of suggestions that I had. One, was that I thought the game goes a little too fast at first. I think it would be better to start just a tad slower until people caught on to the controls, and just "got into the Tetris mode" so to speak. The other thing was the size of the game. Is it possible to make it a little larger? Even the size of the sample would be better. I thought the game moved a little jerky, and at times the controls quit working totally. Perhaps I hit a wrong key with my left hand. Could that cause the controls not to work? I wondered about that.

I did improve the more that I played, which is a good sign for both the game and for my skills.

These are not major things. Certainly I would play this game voluntarily and enjoy playing your version of Tetris.

Mon, 24 May 2010 02:03:54 +0000

The game worked well, but the only suggestion to improve it would be to have the space bar control the flipping of a block, rather than shift or control. That took a little while to get used to and was a little awkward.

Tue, 25 May 2010 02:00:49 +0000

Thu, 10 Jun 2010 01:56:01 +0000

-Include the controls for the game on the game play screen below the "Next Piece" section or somewhere on the game play screen. I had to close out the game the first time I played to figure out how to rotate the piece.

Sun, 13 Jun 2010 02:04:06 +0000

-You could simplify the controls by making the Up arrow key be the control for rotating the piece instead of the Shift or Control keys. That way, the controls would only use the directional keys.

Tue, 15 Jun 2010 02:04:02 +0000

This game reminds me of the original tetris that I played on my Game Boy. I played the game for a few minutes and kept having problems when I needed to turn the shape. For some reason I kept using the up arrow, which does nothing. Then I used shift for the turning and my computer asked me if I wanted to turn on sticky keys. So once I put one of my fingers on the control key I was more successful.

Played as well as any other online tetris game. I found using the control button a bit awkward but could get use to it. Nothing special or different, but everything worked well.

This was an extremely fun version of Tetris. The application was easy to open, and it is a nice clone version of Tetris.

Fun. In the original, aren't I able to move the shapes around clockwise or counterclockwise if I want? In either case, it was an extra challenge. Good game.

The game didn't start immediately. After I figured out that I had to start a new game, I was very satisfied with the scrolling of the pieces. The colors were very vibrant and I loved that there was a bonus that was applied to the game. It is very much like classic tetris. Even though the High score box appeared after I was finished with the game, it didn't tell me what my score was. Good job. I love the game.

Overall the game was okay to play. The controls where a bit uncomfortable to use. Maybe using only the arrow buttons would make it easier. I also didn't like that it opened up in a tiny browser window.

Game would not download correctly on our computer. I don't know if it is because it's an older computer or not, but we could not get it to play.
